Craniofacial Fellowship Applicants

Two-Step Application Process

To Participate in the San Francisco Match:

  • Must be a resident or have completed a residency program accredited/approved by one of the following: 

- ACGME, AOA, ACGME-I Advanced Specialty Craniofacial Plastic Surgery AccreditationRoyal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC), or College of Family Physicians of Canada (CFPC)

  • $75 registration fee

To Participate in a Craniofacial Surgery Fellowship:

  • Must complete a plastic surgery residency program and be in good standing using ACGME, ACGME-I, or CanMEDS Milestones evaluations from the core residency program.*
  • Proof of plastic surgery in-service exam scores
  • (3) references – names and emails
  • Current CV
  • Current Photograph

Eligibility Exceptions:

The Fellowship Committee may allow participation in the CF match and appointment to an accredited fellowship program for an exceptionally qualified international graduate applicant who does not satisfy the eligibility requirements listed previously but meets the following additional qualifications and conditions:

(1)  completed a residency program in the core specialty of plastic surgery outside of the continental United States that was not accredited by the ACGME, AOA, ACGME-I, RCPSC or CFPC, 

(2)   demonstrated clinical excellence, in comparison to peers throughout training, and
    (3)   obtained verification of Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) certification.

        Additional evidence of exceptional qualifications is required, which may include one of the following:

        (a) participation in additional clinical or research training in the specialty or subspecialty;

        (b) demonstrated scholarship in the specialty or subspecialty; and/or

        (c) demonstrated leadership during or after residency.

          The Fellowship committee must review and approve all candidates requesting an exemption under the international graduate applicant tract. A candidate who meets the criteria for exemption and participates in an ASCFS endorsed program will be eligible for the CAQ in craniofacial surgery upon completion.

           A letter from a potentially sponsoring institution participating in the SF match process will be encouraged.
